There are very few Orthodontic emergencies.
Long and sharp archwires are the main emergencies as these can cut into the cheeks or gums.
If you have any breakages, discomfort or queries don't hesitate to give us a call. If this happens out of office hours don't panic. Leave a message on our answer phone and we will contact you when we return.
Here are some tips to deal with problems with your braces or your Invisalign aligners:
* If a wire protrudes and is irritating, use a blunt instrument ie the eraser end of a pencil and push the wire under the bracket where possible. If irritation to the lip or mouth continues, place wax or wet cotton wool over the wire to make yourself comfortable.
* Sometimes a bracket may come unglued from a tooth. A special repair appointment may be needed. In some circumstances it may OK to leave until your next visit with us, but please let us know. If it feels uncomfortable apply some wax.
* For our Invisalign patients, if an attachment has broken off the tooth keep wearing your aligners as instructed and contact us.
* If you lose or brake an aligner, continue to wear the next aligner in the series and use chewies to seat the aligner properly. If the next aligner doesn't fit go back to the previous aligner and contact us.
For any trauma to the teeth contact the Gisborne emergency dentist or A&E.
