Emergencies

There are very few Orthodontic emergencies.
Long and sharp archwires are the main emergencies as these can cut into the cheeks or gums.

If you have any breakages, discomfort or queries don't hesitate to give us a call or contact an emergency dentist if the problem is out of our clinical hours. Leave a message on our answer phone and we will contact you when we return.

Here are some tips to deal with problems with your braces or your Invisalign aligners:

* If a wire protrudes and is irritating, use a blunt instrument, for example the eraser end of a pencil and push the wire under the bracket where possible.  If irritation to the lip or mouth continues, place wax or wet cotton wool over the wire to make yourself comfortable.

* Sometimes a bracket may come unglued from a tooth.  A special repair appointment may be required. Please contact us to determine if this is necessary.  If it feels uncomfortable apply some wax.

* For our Invisalign patients, if an attachment has broken off the tooth keep wearing your aligners as instructed and contact the practice.

* If you lose or break an aligner, continue to wear the next aligner in the series and use chewies to seat the aligner properly. If the next aligner doesn't fit go back to the previous aligner and contact us.

*For any trauma to the teeth contact the Gisborne emergency dentist or A&E.
